Tiffany Brown’s Fall/Winter Collection Debuts at New York Fashion Week

Presented during this month’s New York Fashion Week at Slate NYC, Tiffany Brown unveiled her Fall/Winter 2022-2023 collection, drawing inspiration from both Kanye West and the world of international couture. The event garnered an enthusiastic audience of fashion aficionados and critics eager to witness Brown’s latest creations.

The collection, dubbed the Brown Collection, predominantly featured an array of monochromatic brown tones and an exciting mix of fabrics and textures. The ensembles showcased were adorned with leather and fur accents, as well as meticulously tailored garments. Notably, the collection boasted an array of suit separates, alongside a crafted evening gown that seamlessly combined tulle and intricate embroidered embellishments.

Venturing backstage after the show, we had the privilege of an exclusive interview with the visionary designer herself.

Young Hot & Modern: Tell us more about your creative process and the story behind your collection.

Tiffany Brown: I wanted to celebrate the black woman. We are on the cusp of having the very first black woman in the supreme court, and I am very excited about that. One of the things that have been coming up in conversations is about us being too ambitious, too bold, too driven. I think we should shine our light, and that is what this is a celebration of. The Brown Collection is a celebration of resiliency of strength. That is my last name, so I really don’t have a choice!

YHM: Which look was your favorite to create and to conceptualize?

TB: I really liked the leather pieces; I enjoyed [creating] them. The final dress was created into something else. It was like a labor of love with the different mixtures and textures, so I really was excited about it.

YHM: What is your creative process when looking for inspiration?

TB: I usually go with a theme of a color. I looked at what I was feeling for fall and what fabrics were available.

YHM: How has COVID-19 affect your creative process and execution of a collection?

TB: It has made me more driven and a lot more focused. I had the space to create and conceptualize in a way I have never done before. You know tomorrow is not promised, and we are living in such an influx, so you have to learn to live in the now and not in the past or the present.

YHM: What advice can you give to aspiring designers that you wish you received when you first started?

TB: No matter what, show every season, twice a year. I got some great advice in the beginning to show in New York and in Paris. That gives you a lot more visibility.

YHM: What’s next for Tiffany Brown moving into 2022?

TB: We have a store opening [this summer] in SOHO, New York. In fall, we have a store opening in Paris just in time for fashion week. It’s very exciting!
