Instagram always seems to find me luck when searching for new designers or the best places to eat in New York. Such luck brought me to the stylish feed of Reverie. Designer, Ronit Genik, graduated from Parsons School of Design with a unique vision to play with different pattens and themes. Her F/W 2014 collection captures a magnified view of snowflakes to give her pieces an eccentric feel for the season.

Young Hot & Modern: What was your inspiration to become a fashion designer?

Ronit Genik: I have always loved fashion and style. From a young age, I have always been creative – sketching, creating clothes and accessories, and collecting fashion magazines, which inspired me to strive towards going to fashion school and having my own line.

YHM: When did you start designing your own products? Reverie?

RG: After working in the fashion industry for several years, I launched Reverie a few years ago and have been creating beautiful, chic clothing for women that embody youthful edge and personal style.

I love using fabrications and prints to tell a story. Within each collection I create unique modern pieces, keeping it both feminine and edgy, and mixing both soft and structured silhouettes.

YHM: What is unique about Reverie?

RG: Reverie reflects a sense of individual style and confidence. I choose fabrics, concepts and one of-a-kind prints that are very personal and special to me and I think that comes through in each collection.

The collections are a mix of unique and unexpected in modern silhouettes and shapes that can be seamlessly placed into any wardrobe. I’m obsessed with textures, luxurious fabrications and distinctive one of-a-kind prints, which is the basis of each collection.

YHM: What is the best part of being a fashion designer?

RG: My favorite part about being a fashion designer is the process of creating my vision and concept for each season, but I also love to see people wearing the clothes and feeling special and unique in them. It also describes how people envision their personal style or how they might feel about special pieces in the collection.

YHM: Why did you name your line Reverie?

RG: Reverie means a state of daydreaming. I love that it describes the process of designing, the creativity that comes from a kind of dreaming. When designing each season, there is an initial inspiration but as it grows, it is the continued thought process that creates and develops the collection. It also describes how people envision their personal style or how they might feel about special pieces in the collection.

I love seeing people interpret the pieces into their wardrobe, creating amazing looks with their own personal style.

YHM: How has your SS15 collection evolve or change from your F/W14 collection?

RG: Both collections are inspired by nature and use fabrics that are shaped by the theme.

The F/W14 Collection uses beautiful, graphic snowflakes shot from under the microscope, which influenced both the fabrications and color palate. I used shimmery metallic silks, tulle dot mesh that echo snow falling, and unexpected details like reflective insets under a blazer collar or pant slit.

In the SS15 Collection, the sea and the stunning imagery of sea creatures, like jellyfish, both familiar and strange at the same time, inspired me. I also focused on beautiful textures and fabrications that emulate the feel of the sea and water.

YHM: What kind of fashion scene does link Reverie most to? (Street fashion, business wear, runway)

RG: I am always inspired by both street fashion and runway. Reverie collections are versatile enough that you can mix it with both high and low.

I love seeing people interpret the pieces into their wardrobe, creating amazing looks with their own personal style. In each collection, I create full looks that work day to evening, and can seamlessly integrate into anyone’s distinctive look.

Each season is a new learning experience and I am excited for the opportunities to create new collections and grow the brand.

YHM: Do you make your own fashion trends with Reverie or do you mix a nice balance of your personality and major trends?

RG: Reverie collections are a mix of whimsical, fun pieces in modern, chic shapes. My love of unique, specialty fabrics and textures, which are often paired together in one piece, are balanced in cleaner silhouettes so it’s still versatile and timeless. I also focus on pieces that enhance a woman’s wardrobe, like luxurious staples that are great layering pieces that you can dress up or dress down.

YHM: How have you grown as a designer and businesswoman?

RG: With each collection, I have grown as a designer. Learning about new fabrications, techniques and also what my customers want to wear has helped me become a better designer and businesswoman. Each season is a new learning experience and I am excited for the opportunities to create new collections and grow the brand.

YHM: Where do you see Reverie in the next 5 to 10 years?

RG: I hope to keep growing as a brand, developing into more areas like accessories, shoes and jewelry, while staying true to myself and the brand by being innovative and finding new inspirations that are meaningful and personal.

YHM: We dropped in on Reverie’s showroom to get a first look at her F/W 2014 and SS 2015 collections. What do you think?
