American Psycho

This early 2000’s psychological thriller follows Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), who is a businessman by day but a serial killer at night. While dealing with dark themes, the movie also provides moments of comic relief and will definitely make you look twice at the handsome boy next door.

Scream

Wes Craven, the creator of A Nightmare on Elm Street, mixes comedy and horror for a storyline following a masked knife maniac who murders high school students. Originally titled Scary Movie, this film will keep you guessing until the end.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Four friends come back together a year after they covered up the murder of a local fisherman. What brings them back? An anonymous letter that simply says, “I know what you did last summer.” This sends the group on a hunt to figure out just who else knows their terrible secret.

Get Out

Jordan Peele directs this psychological thriller that follows Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) and Rose Armitage’s (Allison Williams) visit to her parents at their house. What starts out as a friendly meet-and-greet turns into a mind-bending discovery of what really happens at the Armitage residence.

The Sixth Sense

Cole, a young boy, is visited by ghosts who are not ready to let go of the earthly realm. He seeks help from child psychologist Dr. Malcolm Crowe, and the two try to navigate Cole’s visitors. But, in doing so, a ghastly secret is revealed.

Carrie

Carrie, a sheltered teen, faces bullying at school from popular girls and trauma at home from her Bible-wielding mother. However, when she realizes that she has supernatural powers, she seeks revenge.

Halloween

The title alone makes this movie a must-watch during October. Michael Myers, who has been locked away in an insane asylum for 15 years, escapes and returns to his hometown to look for his next victims. There are 8 sequels that follow, to satisfy any desire to binge watch this Halloween classic during the pandemic.

The Lost Boys

If you aren’t one for really scary movies but still want to feel the spooky spirit, The Lost Boys is the perfect movie for you. Set in California, vampires rule the town. It’s up to Sam (Corey Haim) and Edward (Corey Feldman) to ward them off before they infiltrate Sam’s family.

Interview with the Vampire

Before Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, there was Lestat (Tom Cruise) and Louis (Brad Pitt), two vampires who retell their life of over 100 years to young writer Daniel Molloy (Christian Slater).

Poltergeist

The Freelings, a simple family of five, begin to encounter paranormal activity throughout their home. Their youngest daughter, Carol Ann (Heather O’Rourke), communicates with a ghost through the television set. What starts out as a cool occurrence turns deadly. It takes the help of the family, two parapsychologists, and an exorcist to rid the house of its visitors.
