How to Layer Summer Pieces for Winter Fashion

January is coming to an end but the winter chill is still lingering around. Cara Kovacs of The Stylephile helps us spice up our winter wardrobe by layering our favorite summer pieces. I was raised in Florida, so winter fashion is sort of an acquired skill for me. However, I love accessorizing and mixing styles, and winter is one of the best seasons to do this. Layering is the key to playing with winter style. Warm weather accessories are so much more varied than in other times of the year. Scarves, gloves, and hats are just the beginning. I love playing with pairing sweaters with vests or button downs, and tights or chunky socks with booties and knee-highs. This look is a perfect example of that. Most people think they have to pack their mini skirts away all season long, but where’s the fun in that? I wanted to challenge myself to stay toasty in a short skirt by adding warm sweaters, and my favorite vintage coat. Then, my favorite part, of piling on accessories let …

Growing Up Duggar: A Look into the Life of the Duggar Girls.

The review! Imagine what it would be like to grow up in a family of 19 children. Pretty crowed, probably. For the four eldest daughters of the Duggar clan it involves house work, insecurities, and saving themselves for marriage. While I do not share the same religious or political beliefs as the Duggar Family (the Duggars are Independent Baptists) I have been known to binge watch a season when it marathons on TLC, and by the fifth episode I can recite all 19 names and guess if Jinger’s hair will be curly or straight during the episode. But the new book by Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger (yup Ginger with a J), delves deeper into the lives of the Duggar family and the pressures that the girls face growing up in such a large family. “Growing Up Duggar: It’s All About Relationships” sheds light on their relationships with their parents, siblings, boys and with God. But the book doesn’t seem like it was written by the girls. Many Amazon users claim that it was written by …

Fashion Inspiration: Then & Now

As young girls we are often inspired by television, movie, and music stars in more ways than just the aspiration for fame.  When we idolize someone we look to their fashion sense to get inspiration for our own wardrobe and more often than not we try to replicate their look and make it our own. When I was younger I loved the Spice Girls… more specifically Ginger Spice.  Needless to say there were many pairs of platforms, shorts, and tank tops, not to mention endless pleading with my mom to let me wear red lipstick and glitter all the time. The answer was no. As I got older, it began to shift from Cher Horowitz of “Clueless” fame, to a little bit of pre-breakdown Britney, and finally Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods. Do we see a pattern here? YHM sat down with two ladies, Erica Villalobos and Diana Vallez, to chat about just this – fashion inspiration!  While this inspiration can come from just about anywhere it is safe to say that as women we tend to …
