How to Layer Summer Pieces for Winter Fashion

January is coming to an end but the winter chill is still lingering around. Cara Kovacs of The Stylephile helps us spice up our winter wardrobe by layering our favorite summer pieces. I was raised in Florida, so winter fashion is sort of an acquired skill for me. However, I love accessorizing and mixing styles, and winter is one of the best seasons to do this. Layering is the key to playing with winter style. Warm weather accessories are so much more varied than in other times of the year. Scarves, gloves, and hats are just the beginning. I love playing with pairing sweaters with vests or button downs, and tights or chunky socks with booties and knee-highs. This look is a perfect example of that. Most people think they have to pack their mini skirts away all season long, but where’s the fun in that? I wanted to challenge myself to stay toasty in a short skirt by adding warm sweaters, and my favorite vintage coat. Then, my favorite part, of piling on accessories let …

Minimalism: Casual Elegance

Think casual elegance! Although lacking the usual attention seeking flare most styles have; beauty lies in simplicity when it comes to the minimalism trend. It may hint boring, but the concept is substantially enticing. There is something about wearing a black and white combo that screams fashion intelligence. The color palette of this trend usually does not exceed black, white, grey, and tan. With the right minimal pieces, you will never run out of things to wear! This sleeveless wide-leg jumpsuit is sexy and simple. No accessories necessary. Just a nude lip and slick back ponytail would be more than enough. This deep v-neckline grey romper is completely comfortable. It’s perfect for a relaxing day on the boardwalk. Pair it with your favorite spring/summer sandals and you’re off! Black and white shoes are a great new addition to the minimalism trend. These half black and half white shoes have been spotted everywhere and they are a great buy, because you can where them with just about anything! Having a few hats in your wardrobe are always necessary! Wear this …

Positivity in any Wardrobe for any Season

Fall is right around the corner. So while the east coast may be saying goodbye to the warm, sunny weather and welcoming the colder, autumn air, twenty-year-old Genevieve Nguyen living in Southern California is living the summer life all year round! YHM: We are transitioning from summer to fall, how does that affect your wardrobe? Genevieve Nguyen (GN): Since I live in SoCal, it’s never really too hot or too cold. I own a lot of shorts! I wear them all year round! For the first day of fall, I would wear a neutral color parka jacket over a plain tank or tee, a printed circle scarf, a pair of denim shorts, sheer leggings under, with a cute pair of strapped heels or ankle booties. YHM: What styles attract and inspire you the most? GN: I really love the simple, classic looks. I’m always attracted to the Brandy Melville-esque styles. I’m interested in modern chic with a little edge. According to Nguyen, she was introduced to the world of fashion when being skinny and showing …
