Mad For Plaid

Considering the different trends that vacillate through out the years, there is one conclusion that can be drawn and it is that there is one trend that has prevailed the harsh criticisms of many fashionistas. Its classic style has entered our hearts and shows no signs of departing anytime soon. This trend is the infamous plaid pattern that we can find on many different garments. Besides the image of plaid flannels or plaid button-up shirts we see when we hear the word plaid, plaid is also famously associated with the skirt girls wear in a private school setting as a part of their uniform. Romp Around Town!

Before classes begin again, one last hurrah day-tripping in the city is a must. No matter which city you choose, from New York to Los Angeles, blending in (or standing out) with the masses of fashionistas while keeping comfortable is key. Let us begin this look with a comfy, chic romper. Rompers are funky, low-key, and most importantly keep you cool on a hot summer day in the city. Rompers look great with a variety of shoes, but they look particularly lovely with a pair of sandals. When bopping around the city, regular handbags aren’t very comfortable to carry for hours on end. Instead, try wearing a cute mid-sized backpack to store all of your necessities. Finish off this outfit with some bold, eye-catching pieces of jewelry like an extra long necklace or a cocktail ring. And there you have it: a comfortable, stylish outfit for a day exploring your favorite city! As always, hope we inspired you to create a fun yet practical outfit that is perfect for a city slicker. And if someone …

Suzanne Rae: Fashion with Purpose and Style

From one of the fashion capitals of the world comes Suzanne Rae Pelaez, a Brooklyn-based fashion designer who gorgeously blends minimalistic with chic styles. New York Fashion Week is no stranger to the five-year-old Suzanne Rae women’s clothing line, and Haute Living notes her as “the next designer to watch.” Her line represents women who work hard and make a graceful statement through their appearance. Pelaez welcomed YHM into her Brooklyn studio to chat about her work and motivations. After studying Economics and Art History at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, Pelaez’s artistic eyes led her to the Big Apple where she soon broke into the art gallery industry. Surrounding herself with art opened her mind to the sophistication of the New York scene and motivated her to make a change. “I wanted to be more hands on with the art. I chose fashion because I was always interested in it, mentions Pelaez.” Later attending Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City, she knew right away that she wanted to start her own …
