Anndra Neen: Modern Jewelry for the Next Generation

Most people can describe in detail their “aha moment” of finally discovering what it is they want to pursue in life. Sometimes a simple moment from their childhood is the exact instruction or motivation they need to take on the world. Annette and Phoebe Stephens are on a nostalgic journey—following in the creative and stylish footsteps of their father and grandmother—Annette and Phoebe launched Anndra Neen, an haute accessory line in April 2009. Their collection has become a serious game-changer for heirloom jewelry and wearable-tech. After traveling to Japan in 2009, Annette and Phoebe were inspired by the country’s sensibility and storytelling in style and culture. They immediately began fulfilling their artistic calling in jewelry design after this trip. “It chose us. It happened so organically. We knew we wanted to do creative work and be in fashion,” Annette said. Once they returned home to Mexico City, Mexico, the sisters connected with local artisans who shared their vision of designing organically. Anndra Neen is a culturally diverse brand. The sisters draw inspiration from their artistic …

Kiss & Wear: An Accessory Secret Worth Sharing

Is it too early to start talking about holiday gifts? Maybe! A little birdie sent us the scoop on the delicate yet trendy jewels from Kiss & Wear. After launching in fall 2015 the brand caters to its name with a signature lip positioned across its necklaces, bracelets, and iPhone cases. We can’t help but reminisce to graffiti buildings and subway rides of the 80’s with the Brooklyn necklace. The 14k yellow gold-plated frame hugs the heavily printed pendant to give it a subtle feel. Pair this chain with your favorite denim getup for a pop of color and cool. While it might be too early for gift shopping, it’s not too late for us to look back on warmer days. The west coast brand indulges our summer calling with its palm tree La Jolla studs. The 18k yellow gold-plated minimalistic design is the perfect break from traditional circular and gem studs. And speaking of tropical inspiration, the Aloha iPhone case is a dead ringer—yes I said it—for summer getaways. So if you’re on the lookout …

Manda Unchained

Taking a chance and making a change in life does not always come easy. There are the finical aspects of it as well as the psychological aspects, but California native Amanda Tjan has been able to conquer that and more. Tjan attended Boston College and while there studied abroad in Madrid. “ I fell in love with the city,” she said. “ I wanted to come back.” And after graduating in 2011, that’s exactly what she did. She moved to Madrid to teach English and continued to fall in love with the city. “ With the city, and not a boy,” she clarified. Always a fan of fashion, Tjan noticed, “in Madrid- and Spain in general- they’re about 2 years behind as far as fashion goes and there’s not a lot of variation.” So she took it upon herself to change that and start her own jewelry line: Manda Unchained. Ava necklace “Manda in Spanish is the command form for the word to demand. The idea of Manda Unchained is to demand what you want, …

Workplace Flair

When working in an office, many people believe that they have to stick to the same drab two-piece suits that have been worn by professionals for years. Black, grey, and navy are staple colors within a professional setting that people feel most comfortable in. Some may feel stifled by this status quo, but more and more people are finding ways to step out of the traditional and throw some sass into their wardrobe. YHM asks recent graduate, Alexis Kianna, how she shows her personality in her wardrobe at work. “I believe that you can remain professional while still showing who you are through your work wardrobe. I like to use accessories and color to make a plain black or grey suit come to life. Pops of red from your shirt, a printed heel, or a colorful belt, are simple pieces that can truly go a long way. The most important thing about picking out an outfit is making sure that you feel comfortable and love the way you look.” By J’nel Billups

All the Fixins: Men’s Accessories Galore

This week in Lips on Fashion we’re diving right into the world of the male accessory. Yep, that’s right, guys can wear bracelets too! (the kind of bracelet, however, is up for debate.) So while this under-discussed and under-appreciated (in our opinion) style choice may be different from the mounds of women’s counterparts, the male accessory is equally fashionable and able to stand out in any case for any occasion. And we’re not talking about the murse here gentlemen (man-purse for all those unaware), we’re picking some of the most stylish and eye-catching looks out there. For starters, let’s talk about the easiest and extremely understated piece of the male accessory line: the tie. While some may not even consider this to be an accessory, we beg to differ. A tie to a man is like a necklace to a woman. It makes a statement and also says a lot about the man behind the clothing. Here’s our favorite: Now let’s look at the more flashy, sometimes outlandish-looking pieces: watches and money clips. NEWSFLASH: Guys …
