It’s Time to Step Up Your Skincare Regimen

As a little girl, I remember my mother teaching me the importance of a good skincare routine. I grew up using Noxzema’s deep cleansing cream and any lotion that was in the apartment. For a long time, I focused my skincare regimen on my face. I didn’t share my beauty products with friends, no one was allowed to touch my face, I didn’t pop blemishes in fear of a scar, and I washed my face in the morning and at night. I was serious about having a fresh face. I still am, however, as I got older I expanded my focus to my entire body beyond using a flower-scented bath wash and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter lotion. After my Noxzema phase—I still love them—I transitioned into all things Neutrogena. These drugstore brands worked perfectly for my skin and budget. Our digital magazine is all about the everyday woman, and we want to stay true to that. I asked my editors to share their favorite skincare products, and they didn’t hesitate to chat up their tried-and-true favorites. …

5 Ways to Stop Body Shaming During the Holiday Season

The holidays can be a wonderful time filled with joy, thanks, and giving to others; however, this is also the most popular time of year for ridicule, judgment, and shaming towards our bodies and others. It is important that we recognize this epidemic of body shaming so we can properly avoid it and make our holidays as enjoyable as possible. Here are a few tips for making this year an even memorable time with family and friends. #1. Stop feeling guilty. This season is a time for celebrations, which leads to lots and lots of good food. So why do we need to feel bad about it? Rather than enjoying the celebrations going on around us, we worry about what’s on our plate—and that is how body image becomes a problem. Have fun in the presence of those you love and stop feeling guilty. #2. Don’t let the words of others influence your image of yourself. You are constantly surrounded by people during the holiday season. No matter what kind of diet they are on, …

Stay focused and Survive the Cold!

It’s that time of year again. Sure, you get to finally wear your cute sweaters, scarves and boots again, but the changing weather also brings something else to worry about: getting sick. But don’t worry! Here are some tips to help you beat the cold this season: 1. Prepare your immune system. Before you feel that cold coming on, support your immune system by taking all natural vitamins and supplements. Getting plenty of Vitamin C is important. Adding the supplement Emergen-C to your water is an easy and yummy way to ensure you’re getting your daily dose of Vitamin C and other important vitamins. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water or antioxidant-rich green tea. Also make sure you’re combating germs by washing your hands periodically or keeping a small container of hand sanitizer in your purse or backpack. 2. Minimize stress. Stress can have a negative effect on you, mentally and physically. Stress can cause fatigue or lack of sleep, which makes it even harder for your body to protect itself from getting sick. Exercise can …

Girl Boss vs. Boss

A girl boss [to me] is a strong woman who owns her sh*t in her personal and professional life and isn’t apologetic about it. She’s not afraid to take risks or be assertive when it comes to her business affairs. Women have been running things behind the scenes for a long time but aren’t always acknowledged or given credit for it. We live in a male dominated society where there’s still a massive gender gap when it comes to seeing women in executive level positions or receiving equal pay to men. Women still make a 77 cents to every dollar men earn. Distinguishing women as “girl bosses” doesn’t take away from them. Using the term “girl” or “female” in front of words such as boss or entrepreneur shouldn’t be seen as a setback or offensive. Women are taking their power back in a non-male bashing way. They’re high stepping and holding their own across the board. Women that come to mind that are leading that front include Shonda Rimes (the power force behind Grey’s Anatomy, …
