Girl Boss vs. Boss

A girl boss [to me] is a strong woman who owns her sh*t in her personal and professional life and isn’t apologetic about it. She’s not afraid to take risks or be assertive when it comes to her business affairs. Women have been running things behind the scenes for a long time but aren’t always acknowledged or given credit for it. We live in a male dominated society where there’s still a massive gender gap when it comes to seeing women in executive level positions or receiving equal pay to men. Women still make a 77 cents to every dollar men earn. Distinguishing women as “girl bosses” doesn’t take away from them. Using the term “girl” or “female” in front of words such as boss or entrepreneur shouldn’t be seen as a setback or offensive. Women are taking their power back in a non-male bashing way. They’re high stepping and holding their own across the board. Women that come to mind that are leading that front include Shonda Rimes (the power force behind Grey’s Anatomy, …

The It Guy; Notes For Picking Prince Charming

Romance can be filled with spontaneous moments of “Aww! You shouldn’t have!” Then there are moments that are more like “I don’t know what to say.” Trust me that is not always a blissful reaction.  Instead it’s a search for words that can truthfully explain how your significant other doesn’t really understand you. You can re-make your list of all the qualities your prince charming should have a million times, but in the end it’s all about compatibility and connection. Why sit around and dream of or chase after someone who is only  “your type” when your special someone could be right before you. Here are some modest yet inspiring ways young women are making smart choices picking their “It Guy.” Ashley, 20 – When trying to find the right guy, a good place to start is just looking in the places that make you happy, like your favorite class or your favorite store. This is helpful because you’ll have something to talk about right away – your mutual interest – and it won’t seem …

These quotes are not like the cheeky lines delivered from your favorite chick flick about the perfect love. Take a look at some of the fab ways these beauties are making sense of…love. What are some helpful tips & values you think girls should keep when in a relationship? Georgette, 27 – Love you. Come filled with more than enough love and happiness within yourself. Oftentimes, we go in EXPECTING someone to make us happy. To some extent, yes that should happen, but if we get it right the first time, we would be overflowing with so much love and happiness for ourselves, that we have more than enough to give …

The moment has finally arrived. We are so ready to dabble in the never-ending convos about love and life! Check out what some men have to say about attraction and dating. If you could prep a girl’s mind for a first date with you, what would you tell her and would you go for a romantic evening? Matt, 22 – Definitely got to be a bit romantic, but this date is the attention grabber, the hook, the intro paragraph to what is hopefully a long book. I don’t think it has to always be a romantic dinner, and it shouldn’t be, I would tell the girl to be open minded and to expect that it is something I know they …

Redefine Heros

A typical description of a hero is someone who shows great bravery, valor, and prowess. Though this is the dictionary definition that everyone knows, it may not be the meaning that fully describes what a hero is to a specific person around the world. YHM wants to know how others describe what a hero is to them, so we sit down with student Candace Hamilton to find out. A hero to me is someone who you have been inspired by and look upon for guidance. I think a hero must possess positive characteristics that others strive to acquire. The qualities that I see in my heroes are ambition, passion, and someone who has the confidence to stay true to themselves no matter the circumstance. The most important trait, out of the three, is passion. I believe it is rare to find people who continue to pursue activities that they are truly passionate about. As I look forward to the future, I am excited and hopeful to find something that I am truly passionate about so …

Back On The Grind

At one point or another we have all set goals for ourselves. It can be something as simple as telling yourself you are going to wake up early in the morning, to saying you want to lose twenty pounds before a big event. It is no surprise to anyone that students around the world are beginning to set new goals for themselves as a new school year begins. YHM asks student, Shannon Kelly, to share her goals for the upcoming school session. I know every student probably sets the same goals when school starts. They tell themselves they want to get all A’s so they strive to do all of their readings, go to every class, and submit every assignment. Just like other students I want the same things, but now that I am older, newer goals are getting added to that list. My goal is to do my best to receive an internship that will set me up for life once I graduate. I feel that these opportunities are the best ways to allow …
