Mac Duggal; Couture for the Modern Woman

“While I’m not dashing off to fancy galas and award ceremonies I couldn’t help but tiptoe into the magical and feminine world of couture at Mac Duggal’s Spring/Summer 2018 New York Fashion Week runway show. According to industry insiders, the Indian born and Chicago based designer is said to be the “biggest designer you’ve never heard of, yet.” Mac Duggal designs have been modeled by stars from reality shows such as Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, American Idol, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, and The Real Housewives series. Mac has had a massive impact on fashion and up to this point, quietly so. His triple threat influence of dressing Hollywood celebrities, reality stars, and prom queens nationwide is finally gaining more attention. I made my way through the crowded lower level of the Angel Orensanz Center in the Lower East Side of Manhattan to talk more about Mac’s star-studded résumé with the designer himself. Although celebrities indulge in Mac’s glamorous designs he’s not chasing A-list celebs for popularity. “I don’t work that way. I put out …

A Very Colorful Oasis: Leanne Marshall Spring/Summer 2018

Leanne Marshall’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection was like having a taste of the rainbow—in a magical way—from head-to-toe. Our team walked through buzzing corridors and dressing rooms to get a glimpse of Leanne’s latest collection before her big show. I remember hearing one of her makeup artists saying, “Think of the perfect sunset.” As I got closer to the models’ adorned faces I saw just how detail-oriented the MUAs were about Leanne’s vision. The models’ eyelids danced with the perfect blood orange palette that faded into a tropical yellow accent. Before heading out from backstage, we were able to watch the model’s runway walk through, witness the designer adding final touches to her garments and get an exclusive interview with her as well. Sitting front row –and loving every second of it—I was so grateful to experience Leanne’s S/S 2018 ready-to-wear collection. One thing that caught my eyes was the different body sizes Leanne used as her collection’s muse. #bodypositive Right away I could tell that using a diverse range of shapes, sizes and skin tones was …

Vivienne Hu: The Effortless Fall Style You’re Looking For

Vivienne Hu stuns again with a flirtatious and bold lineup for her Fall/Winter 2017 collection. Hu’s erstwhile run as an investment banker did not last long as her passion and skills brought her to the world of fashion—and we’re blushing about the designer’s upcoming release. Her FW17 collection quickly debunks any negative notions you have about dressing stylish and staying warm during the coolers months. While Hu’s cocktail dresses charmingly dashed across the runway of her New York Fashion Week show in February, the standout attraction was her assortment of cozy pea-coats and parkas. The outwear pieces were garnered with audacious fur pockets, necklines, and sleeves. She makes you want to quickly ditch your boring winter layers and opt for one of her high-end pieces. Olive green, mustard yellow, and cardinal red made a natural striped backdrop for numerous pieces, from swinging mini dresses to tailored jackets. Hu takes the guessing game out of getting ready for the fall and winter season. Now I’m not saying you should stick to one brand for all styling …

Limor Ben Yosef: The Bridal Couture Designer Every Bride-To-Be Needs to Know

Limor Ben Yosef, an Israeli bridal couture designer constructs stunning custom-made wedding dresses. Embellished with hand sewn gems and draped with a touch of power, she designs from the heart. She is self-taught and spent many years crafting her skills in beauty and fashion. Her 2017 collection, “Goddess,” is a true testament of “practice makes perfect.” The collection exemplifies how her adolescent years as a budding designer can produce not only a work of art, but a designer who is inspired by other women more than fashion trends. The “Goddess” collection began with the careful selection of high-quality laces and fabrics. The gowns are adorned with an array of hand-stitched pearls and crystals on chiffon and silk fabrics. Limor sketched each dress by pulling from late night imaginations to early morning motivations. “Goddess” deserves much applause for its pitch-perfect fairytale designs. Her dresses are made for strong and sexy women who have an affection for power and beautification; hence the name “Goddess.” “I took the name from [Greek] mythology. Many of them are women; strong …

Daughters of Artemis: Stylishly Claiming Our Crown

Ane Amour’s “Daughters of Artemis” collection for autumn/winter 2017 sent us on a hunt for power with its bold and rustic forest colors and prints. Designer Lyala Anne captured the true essence of women on the hunt in this season’s pieces. The A/W 2017 collection inspires us to feel as if we’ve slipped into the clothing of a goddess, while its bold cuts keep us modern yet conservative. Allowing women to feel inspired to conquer, Anne made sure to create pieces that would suit all body types. Her tonal prints allow outfits to vary from day to night and from business to evening wear. Some of the floral prints that canvas white fabrics can even transition into the warmer spring and summer months. Floral prints danced on ruffled fabrics in a fierce yet subtle way. The designer’s play with nature was exciting and the floaty fabric’s mimicked wispy hair in the wind. Conservative yet sexy, Anne’s garments hug and swing in all the right places. Any woman wearing a piece from the “Daughters of Artemis” …
