Summer 2020 | #YHMKeepHopeAlive

I find myself searching for the right words to pen this season. I’ve written several editor’s letters over the past few months, but nothing seems to fit the tone of my feelings towards the “new normal.”

My heart breaks for the injustices still happening in the United States of America for people of color, but especially for Black people. My people. My heart breaks for the uphill battle we, the citizens, face while combating the coronavirus pandemic. There have been many losses. Nonetheless, my heart is pushing me to keep hope alive.

While our favorite restaurants and bars, theaters, shops, and hang-out spots are being redefined—or closed—the world is still moving forward. There is much to be thankful for. I don’t know where your thoughts rest, but I thank Jesus every day for life. I don’t need to remind you that there are doctors, scientists, and leaders working towards making our “new normal” not so bad. That gives me hope, and my goal is that YHM gives you hope as well.

YHM is here to help you navigate the times and have a little fun, (safely of course). Human beings are resilient. A global pandemic won’t stop people from making a positive difference in the world, and we want to, ya know, highlight that.

At times we’ll find ourselves up and then down the next. My heart goes out to you and your family. Keep hope alive, and keep moving forward. We won’t get everything right here, but sharing stories of empowering women to the latest fashion trends to pop culture buzz is our thing. Stay tuned for more.

Until next time,
Yegide Matthews
