As young girls we are often inspired by television, movie, and music stars in more ways than just the aspiration for fame. When we idolize someone we look to their fashion sense to get inspiration for our own wardrobe and more often than not we try to replicate their look and make it our own.
When I was younger I loved the Spice Girls… more specifically Ginger Spice. Needless to say there were many pairs of platforms, shorts, and tank tops, not to mention endless pleading with my mom to let me wear red lipstick and glitter all the time. The answer was no.
As I got older, it began to shift from Cher Horowitz of “Clueless” fame, to a little bit of pre-breakdown Britney, and finally Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods. Do we see a pattern here?
YHM sat down with two ladies, Erica Villalobos and Diana Vallez, to chat about just this – fashion inspiration! While this inspiration can come from just about anywhere it is safe to say that as women we tend to get our inspiration from the women we see and admire through media.
YHM: Growing up what television or music personality did you look up to? Did you ever try to replicate their fashion?
EV: Tiffani Thiessen from Saved By The Bell. Even though it was almost a fifteen year difference in sense of styles, it was just different!
DV: All through middle school and high school I watched Beverly Hills 90210. I replicated the fashions of the girls on the show which included Tori Spelling, Jenny Garth, and Shannon Doherty. In the later years I began dressing like the new characters from the college years of the show!
YHM: How is your style different now?
EV: My style has changed from tomboy when I was younger to dresses and heels now. It has been a complete change.
DV: My style today has adapted into more classy but with an edge of rock inspired. I wear blazers to dress any outfit up with jeans and pair it with heels, converse, or mid high black boots for an edgier look.
YHM: If you could pick any celebrity to switch wardrobes with now, who would it be and why?
EV: Jenna Dewan-Tatum. I love her style of dressing.
DV: Audrina Patridge! Her style is exactly who I would switch my wardrobe with. She has a fresh rocker boyish inspired look, but classy.
